Tosha Khana

Toshakhana is a Persian word which means “Treasure House”.  It’s a place where Rulers or state representatives keep all the state gifts or emblems of honor which they receive.  During Sikh  rule there was a Toshakhana inside Lahore fort‘s Moti Masjid. Where all the precious gifts either Jewels, Cloths or other artifacts were stored. According to Dr John Spencer Login who was appointed the first governor of Lahore Fort when the British annexed the Punjab in 1849. He enlist all the belongings of Moti Masjid ToshaKhana which includes Pricious Diamonds including Koh I Noor, Jewels, Kashmir shawls, chogas (robes), satin and velvet shamianas embroidered with gold, richly colourful Iranian and Bokhara carpets, gold, silver tent poles Golden Chair of State belongs to MahaRaja Ranjit Singh, etc,

This ToshaKhana is discovered during the Conservational works of Moti Masjid by Punjab Walled Cities and Heritage Area’s Authority in 2020. This chamber has been restored alongside the conservation of Moti Masjid.
