During the seventh regal year (1634) Shah Jahan visited Lahore, and reviewed the palace buildings critically from the point of view of his own residence. At that time along with construction of a sleeping chamber, a new imperial Hammam was also ordered to be constructed.
The royal bath structure was based on accurate construction and its several chambers incorporated a reservoir with fountains, a cold room, a hot room and dressing rooms in addition to latrines. There were cubicles for changing as well as for furnaces to warm the water in the reservoirs, along with providing hot air for the chambers. The Hamams have been conserved by Punjab Walled Cities and Heritage Area’s Authority.
